Finding Joy in the journey

Week 1 Recap: Training for a Boston Qualifying Marathon

I want to run fast again. It has been hard to find motivation and a goal post-college running, but this year, I want to run a fast marathon. I ran my first marathon last year and loved the training experience. It was different than anything else I’d ever done before. I ran 3:28 at the St. George Marathon (my hometown course) with no expectations other than running sub 3:30, and I did! I realized after the fact that I had just barely missed the Boston Marathon qualifying time by 3 minutes. I signed up for another marathon in September of this year, and I hope to qualify for the Boston Marathon with plenty of time to spare.

This week, I started my official structured training. I am trying to focus on consistency and slowly building up my mileage. In the next few weeks, I also have a few races coming up to get some benchmark times for this training block.

Weekly Stats:

Total Miles: 24
Total Duration: 5 miles

Monday: 3.5 miles

Tuesday: 5 miles

Wednesday: Rest day

Thursday: 5.5 miles

Friday: 45 minute bike

Saturday: 7 miles

Sunday: 3 miles

Best & Worst:

Best: I ran with a lot of friends this week that I haven’t seen in a while. It was so fun to catch up and chat with them on our runs!

Worst: The inversion this week has been awful it has definitely been affecting my lungs a bit on my runs.

Next Week:

Next week, I will start incorporating more strength and cross-training! I also have a 10K race on Saturday, so we’ll see how it goes!
